Degree and Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 1978, and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the same university in 1985, with special prize for the best student in both the Master’s and PhD. First prize in “XI Resurrección María de Azkue Research Competition” and “CAF/Elhuyar” (2011). Professor of Chemical Engineering at UPV/EHU since 1994.

Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities since 1980 in Chemical Engineering at UPV/EHU. The research activities focus on the development of thermal and catalytic processes of interest from an energy and environmental perspective. He has participated in more than 120 competitive projects.

420 papers published in journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports list, with an h index of 76, and more than 17000 citations. Supervisor of 33 PhD students. Holder of two Spanish and five international patents.

Secretary of the Chemistry section at the Faculty of Science (1995-1999); Spanish Delegate at the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (Chemical Engineering in the Applications of Catalysis, 1991-2003 and Chemical Reaction Engineering, 2003-2006); Head of the Organizing Committee for the II European Congress on Fluidization (Bilbao, 1997) and 7th International Symposium on Spouted Beds (Barcelona, 2017); Head of the Scientific Committee at Fluid Particle Interactions V (Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, 1999) and the 6th International Symposium on Spouted Beds (Vancouver, Canada, 2012). Member of the Research Committee at UPV/EHU (2006-2013). Secretary of the Committee for Experimental Sciences at the Basque Agency for Assessing Research Quality (UNIBASQ) (2012-2016).
