CM01 - Analyze, using mass and energy balances, installations, equipment, and processes in which the matter undergoes changes in morphology, composition, state, energy, and reactivity.

CM03 - Analyze, model, and calculate operations of separation on the basis of applied thermodynamics and mass transfer.

CM09 - Compare theoretical models and simulated results with real results obtained in laboratory units and pilot plants.

CM11 - Skillfully manage the information and communication technologies applied to learning, the sources of information and the specific data bases of Chemical Engineering, as well as office software to support oral presentations.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

Theoretical information is presented during class hours and practical exercises are solved afterwards in increasing complexity. The use of computers is recommended due to the complexity of the calculations that have to be carried out. Thus, these exercises are solved by means of calculation sheets.

Assessment systemsToggle Navigation

Percentages shown in the previous section are average values. The applied intervals are shown below:



Exams: 60-80% of the total.



There will be three midterm exams that will consider the assimilation of the concepts related to the subject as well as the ability to apply them in order to solve problems or practical cases. The first midterm exam will be related to the first four topics of the subject. The second one will cover the next three topics and the last one is related to the overall evaluation of the subject. The student will not be required to attend the final exam if he or she has obtained at least a 6.0/10 on each of the former midterm exams. Marks lower than 3.0/10 on these midterm exams will make the final exam mandatory.



- Continuous assessment tests or exams: 20-40% of the total.



The following activities will be considered:



Completion of practical work:

- Problem solving and case studies.

- Computer skills (exams, reports, attendance, etc.).



Individual or group tasks:

- Realization of assignments and reports.



Presentation of assignments, readings, etc.

- Oral presentation (assignments, reports, problems and case studies, etc.).



If a student wishes not to be evaluated by continuous assessment, he or she must present a refusal document to the professor in charge of the course within the first 9 weeks of the academic year. If the first midterm exam results are published later than that date, the students will have time until the week following their publication to present the resignation document. In this case, the final written exam will count towards 100% of the final mark.



Final evaluation



The evaluation will be based exclusively on the final exam. This final exam will consist of a theoretical part and another one of exercises. Students that do not sit the final exam will be qualified as "Not Attended" whenever they have duly presented their refusal not to be evaluated by continuos assessmet.



In case health conditions do not allow the evaluation to be carried out according to the aforementioned terms, for either some or all students registered in the subject, the guidelines issued by the Rector’s Office regarding the method of evaluation will be applied at that time.
