MethodologyToggle Navigation

Lecture will be given by the professor with the help of power point presentations. The book with all the subjects of the course will be available for students in reprographic service of the faculty.

The seminars will be focused on specific topics that require additional exercises to encourage teamwork and participation of students with possible occasional debates. Thus, deepening the theoretical knowledge of the subject in a more practical and applied manner is allowed.

In the laboratory practices students will develop experimental work to acquire knowledge and skills of the experimental techniques employed in materials science. Students should keep a laboratory notebook (available in the reprographic service center) where descriptions of the practice and brief questions for self-assessment are included.

In the event that minimum distances are established between students for health security, the practices will be organized in a delegated way

Assessment systemsToggle Navigation

The final mark of the subject is divided into three parts: 75% written exam, 15% seminars,10% laboratory practices.

CONTINUOUS EVALUATION

To pass the subject students have to get 5 out of 10 in the written exam, seminars and laboratory practices. The marks of the different parts of the written exam must be compensated and it is at the lecturer's discretion this estimation.

Assessment of the written exam:

The written exam will consist of a theoretical part and an exercise part and both have the same weight in the exam. The theoretical part will consist of a test and short questions in which the concepts of the subject will be developed. The exercise part will consist of two problems to solve. Each of the problems represents 50% of the mark of the exercise part.

The day of the exam, students will be allow to bring only: Drawing material: ruler, triangle… ; Calculator; Writing material.

Assessment of the laboratory practices:

There are three laboratory practices. In order to be able to do the practice, it is necessary to have satisfactorily completed the pre-practice test within the established deadline. For this, it is necessary to correctly answer 3 out of 5 questions of the previous test. Students who do not sit the test or obtain a lower mark than the one mentioned above, will not be able to participate in the practice, and therefore the mark corresponding to that practice will be taken as a zero for the calculation of the final mark of practice.

Laboratory practices will be assessed by a final test in E-Gela. The final mark will be calculated by applying the arithmetic mean of the three individual practices. Even having attended the practice, not answering the questions of the corresponding test within the established deadlines will imply a zero.

If the student does not attend any of the laboratory practices, it is understood that he/she refuse to be evaluated by continuous evaluation system, and so they will be evaluated by the final evaluation system (read final evaluation section).

*Those students who have attended the laboratory practices but do not get the mark established in the continuous evaluation criteria will have the opportunity of being evaluated by a theoretical / practical question on the day of the final exam.

*If students do not pass the subject, the mark of the laboratory practice is not going to be saved for next year course.

Evaluation of the seminars:

There are six seminars and each seminar has a task to be solved by students. Only for the second and third seminars (Lecture 7: Corrosion), prior to the seminar day, students must answer a 5-question test in E-Gela. The mark obtained in this test will serve to weight the final mark of the seminar task.

The final mark will be calculated by applying the arithmetic mean of the marks of individual tasks that students have to hand in on the corresponding dates. Even having attended the seminar, not submitting the corresponding task within the established deadlines will result in a zero. Those students who do not attend the seminar are not allow to submit the corresponding task and therefore, the note corresponding to that task will be taken as a zero for the calculation of the final mark of seminars.

If the student does not attend any of the semniars, it is understood that he/she refuse to be evaluated by continuous evaluation system, and so they will be evaluated by the final evaluation system (read final evaluation section).

*Those students who have attended the seminars but do not get the mark established in the continuous evaluation criteria will have the opportunity of being evaluated by a theoretical / practical question on the day of the final exam.

*If students do not pass the subject, the mark of the seminars is not going to be saved for next year course.

* The student has the right to be evaluated by the final evaluation system. For that purpose, students must submit a resignation letter for which they have a period of 9 weeks counting from the beginning of the semester.

FINAL EVALUATION

The final evaluation system will be carried out by means of a final written examination consisting of three parts: evaluation of the written exam, evaluation of laboratory practices and evaluation of seminars.

Evaluation of the written exam:

The written exam will consist of a theoretical part and a practical part and both have the same weight in the exam. The theoretical part will consist of test and short questions in which the concepts of the subject will be developed. The practical part will consist of two problems to solve. Each of the problems represents 50% of the note of the practice

Evaluation of the laboratory practices:

Theoretical /practical question to be solved by the students.

Evaluation of the seminars:

Theoretical /practical question to be solved by the students.

In the event that it is not possible to carry out a face-to-face evaluation of the subject, the pertinent changes will be made to carry out an online evaluation using the existing IT tools at the UPV / EHU. The characteristics of this online evaluation will be published on eGela.
