AimsToggle Navigation

In this course, the following skills are trained:

Ability to independently learn new knowledge and techniques suitable for the design, development or operation of telecommunications systems and services.

Ability to use search tools, library resources or information related to telecommunications and electronics.

Ability to analyze and specify the fundamental parameters of a communications system.

Ability to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different technological alternatives for the deployment or implementation of communications systems, from the point of view of signal space, noise, disturbances and analogue and digital modulation systems.

Ability to design, deploy, organize and manage networks, systems, services and infrastructures of telecommunication, in residential (home, city and digital communities) business or institutional settings taking responsibility for their implementation and continuous improvement and knowing its economic and social impact.

Ability to differentiate the concepts of access networks and transport networks, circuit-switched and packet-switched networks, fixed and mobile networks, as well as distributed network systems and applications, voice, data, audio, video and interactive and multimedia services.

Knowledge of methods of networking and routing, as well as the fundamentals of planning, network dimensioning based on traffic parameters.

Knowledge, understanding and ability to apply the necessary legislation during the development of the profession of Engineer of Telecommunication and ability to handle specifications, regulations and mandatory standards.

MASTERCLASSES

1. Basic telecommunication systems units: the decibel

2. Transmission Media: Disturbances

3. Traffic in Telecommunication Systems

4. Access Networks

5. Core and Transport Networks

SEMINARS

Seminar 1: Transmission media

Seminar 2: ADSL

Seminar 3: Telecommunications system chosen by the working group

PRACTICES

Practice 1: Distortion and intermodulation

Practice 2: Quantification

MethodologyToggle Navigation

The course consists of lectures in which new concepts are explained. Besides, problems in which the student must perform calculations and solve situations related to communication systems will be resolved.

Moreover, in classes of laboratory practices the problems of intermodulation distortion and quantification will be studied in a practical way.

Finally, in seminars sessions, students working in groups will perform a presentation relating to various means of transmission, the characteristics of the ADSL system and a complex telecommunications system of their choice.

In the event that the sanitary conditions prevent the realization of teaching activities and/or face-to-face evaluations, an online modality will be activated and the students will be informed promptly.

Assessment systemsToggle Navigation

The evaluation of the subject will be based on the following criteria:

- To qualify, it is a necessary condition to pass the exam and present deliverables

- If that condition is met the rating is calculated as:

- 50% test

- 10% present the deliverables

- 20% group work in seminars

- 20% individual work of laboratory practices

Who chooses not to follow the continuous evaluation will be evaluated based on a single final exam covering all aspects that make up the subject, including seminars and practices. The evaluation by a final exam will include an additional test to evaluate the contents evaluated through the continuous evaluation.

To give up on the evaluation it will suffice not to take the final exam.

Compulsory materialsToggle Navigation

The egela.ehu.eus platform will be used for communication with students through forums, distribution of notes and problems and deliverables collection.
In lab practices the oscilloscope and signal generator, audio acquisition software and MATLAB will be used.
