Sustainable Plastics

One of the main problems faced by humanity is the accumulation of waste in the environment. The amount of plastics in land field and floating in the sea, at the bottom of the sea and even in the stomachs of the marine animals is very worrisome. Most polymers used nowadays are not biodegradable, which aggravates the situation. Since other more ideal solutions to the problem (such as tighter regulation, education, awareness-raising, recovery of the waste, ) are seemingly not being applied, the use of plastic obtain from renewable sources and biodegradable to substitute fossil origin polymers is an strategy to reduce such environmental impacts. For this purpose, properties of bioplastics need to be optimize to fulfil final application requirements.
