Description and contextualization of the subject

This subject is part of the third semester of the master's degree and consists of 4.0 ECTS credits. During the first semester of the master's degree, students take the subject `English and Scientific Publication Writing¿ (TU6) at the Warsaw University of Technology, in which they are taught i) aspects of grammar and structures at an advanced level, ii) fluency when communicating in English, iii) the structures and rules of scientific texts, and iv) making technical presentations in English. In addition, during the second semester of the Master, at the Université Toulouse III-Paul Sabatier, the subject `English and Scientific Conference Presentation¿ is taught, where fluency in spoken English and scientific presentations is worked on.

This course is divided into two main blocks. The first one focuses on i) introducing different strategies to approach the search and effective management of information, ii) introducing research projects and their management, iii) presenting the different sources of funding in the European Union, as well as the structure of the proposals, and iv) showing the fundamental concepts of intellectual property, focusing on Patents and Utility Models.

In the second block, the course will offer comprehensive training designed to equip students not only with technical expertise but also with the essential transversal skills crucial for a successful professional career. While strong technical abilities are fundamental for generating knowledge as a researcher, it is equally important to develop competencies such as effective communication, collaborative teamwork, and efficient resource management. The program will therefore focus on cultivating key professional skills, including communication (covering principles, active listening, feedback, and workplace dynamics), leadership, teamwork strategies, assertiveness, decision-making, negotiation, time management, and career preparation, ensuring students develop a well-rounded skill set for academic and professional advancement.
