Molecular Biology and Biomedicine
Ever since Watson and Crick's revolutionary discovery, in 1953, of the DNA double helix structure, molecular biology has steadily grown and developed to the point of "invading" more active regions of biology and medicine. Biochemistry, genetics, physiology, cellular biology, neurosciences and many other branches of biomedical research have been pulled into the whirlwind of molecular biology, a positive whirlwind that pulls upwards a wide range of fields increasing their usefulness and results. Just over half a century after the initial discovery, it is now very difficult to separate biology from molecular biology.
The Master's Degree in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine (MBMB) brings together practically all of the UPV/EHU researchers active in the areas of Molecular Biology and Genetics, and in the molecular aspects of Biomedicine. The same applies to the pre-clinical courses at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cantabria(UC). Many CIC-bioGUNE researchers and from its associated companies also take part. This means a total of at least 36 highly active groups, which have produced over 70 externally funded research projects and over 400 research articles in the last three years.
On the other hand, it is well know that the R&D&I of the professional sector associated to Molecular Biology and Biomedicine is experiencing growth that is unprecedented in any other area. Suffice to say that, in this sector, knowledge from basic research is frequently directly transferred to commercial exploitation.
By offering the MBMB to the graduates from the widest range of fields, with the common denominator of a common interest in Molecular Biology, we are sure that we are efficiently contributing, thanks to the first-rate training, to producing a new generation of research, development and innovation professionals.
