Overview

The department of Medieval, Modern and American History offers a broad range of taught subjects as part of a number of different degrees: History, History of Art, Hispanic Philology, Basque Philology, Translation and Interpretation. Different subjects are taught in Spanish, Basque and English.

The department is also responsible the Masters Degree "Europe and the Atlantic: power, culture and society" ("Europa y el Mundo Atlántico: poder, cultura y sociedad"), an official Masters' degree conforming to the standards of the European Higher Education Area. The Master's degree is jointly offered by the University of the Basque Country, the Simancas Institute of the University of Valladolid, the University of Verona, the Paris based École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and the University of Nantes, and offers specialist training orientated towards teaching and research in History. Successful completion of the Masters degree gives access to our doctoral programme which has been awarded a Quality citation (Mención de Calidad) by the Spanish Ministry for Education and Science.

The department also participates in the  Aulas de la Experiencia on the  Álava, Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya campuses.
