The UNESCO Chair of World Linguistic Heritage

The UNESCO Chair of World Linguistic Heritage of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) is a Unesco Chair specializing in minority languages and integrated into the UNITWIN network. The chair focuses on cultural and linguistic wealth, focusing especially on vulnerable and endangered languages. In order to contribute to the protection of the linguistic heritage of mankind, promote quality multilingual education and promote initiatives that value linguistic and cultural diversity, the Chair carries out the following actions:

 

  • Analysis, description and dissemination of local and foreign linguistic heritage.
  • To disseminate knowledge and promote training and research on minority and vulnerable languages in danger of extinction.
  • Research into the characteristics and values of multilingual education, focusing in particular on the minority language, while at the same time making known the foundations for ensuring inclusive and fair training.
  • To promote and strengthen cooperation between international bodies working on linguistic heritage and to develop joint initiatives with these networks.
  • To promote research and training initiatives aimed at making the language and cultural heritage of the Basque Country aware of its diversity and strengthening its best management.

2019 edition of the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the use of Information and Communication Technologies in education

The Director-General is pleased to invite the Governments of Member States to nominate, via their National Commissions for UNESCO, candidates forthe 2019 edition of the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the use of Information and Communication Technologies in education.

Funded by the Kingdom of Bahrain and established in 2005, the Prize rewards projects that use new techonologies to enhance teaching, learning and overall education performance.

The theme of 2019 Prize is “The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to innovate education, learning and teaching”.

Two awards will be granted, and each recipient will receive a monetary award of USD 25,000 during the Award Ceremony at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

·        The nomination process takes place via an online platform: www.unesco.org/ict-ed-prize

·        National Commissions will be able to connect with their existing generic user accounts

An applicant can request the creation of a user account through this link.

·        The online submissions in English or French should be nominated by National Commissions for UNESCO via the online platform by 31 October 2019 (midnight, Paris time).

UNESCO recommends to circulate this call for nominationsamongst interested stakeholders, and encourages Member States to elicit, nominate and submit candidates for the Prize, thus contributing to a greater diversity of the projects.
