The paper deals with a highly versatile configuration for the design of autonomous microfluidic devices: the integration of polymer micropumps with multilayer laminated microfluidic cartridges. We demonstrate a number of features for this self-powered configuration, such as fast prototyping, suitability to process a large range of volume samples from nanoliters to milliliters, tuneable and controlled flow rates from 0.25 to 20 mL/min, mixing, aliquoting, waste storage and auto-draining of the microfluidic channels.
