Education: International PhD in Cell Biology and Outstanding Thesis Award (UPV/EHU). Postdoctoral stays at the University College London (UK), Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo (Italy) and King’s College London (UK).
Current post: Associate Professor (Profesor Titular de Universidad) at the Department of Cell Biology and Histology. Teaching activities: Degree in Medicine (Cell Biology, Basic Human Histology-English coordinator, and Special Human Histology-Spanish coordinator), International Master in Biomedical Engineering (Intro. to Biomedicine-coordinator) and Master in Biomedicine (Adv. in Neurotransmission and Neuromodulation-coordinator). Evaluation of Excelent in the DocentiaZ program for professors.
Research activities: 36 indexed manuscripts (14Q1, 14Q2), 29 book chapters and 3 books. >70 communications (30 oral) in national and international meetings. H-index: 19; i10 index: 26, and more than 1500 citations (source: Google Scholar). Co-Principal Investigator of the “Ischemia and Tissue Repair/Regeneration Research Group”. Participation in 17 autonomic, national and international research projects (5 as PI). Associate Editor of Frontiers in Pediatrics and Editorial Board Member of BMC Pediatrics, BMC Neuroscience and Neurochemical Research.
Research interests: to identify, develop and optimize new and more efficient therapeutic strategies against neonatal encephalopathy, including therapeutic hypothermia, melatonin and cannabinoids.
