Grand Challenges Africa
The Data Science Approaches to Improve Maternal and Child Health in Africa challenge is being launched by Grand Challenges Africa - supported through the Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA) - and the African Academy of Sciences with the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Knowledge Integration (Ki) initiative. This challenge seeks to promote new quantitative approaches to synthesizing and analyzing data and evidence obtained from African public health surveys, longitudinal observational studies, clinical trials, and other relevant data sources – including combined datasets – to produce novel insights that can be used to improve maternal and child health in the African context and around the world. Applications will be accepted until April 26, 2019 20:00 GMT.

Islamic Development Bank
The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has established a special Fund, known as the Science, Technology and Innovation Transform Fund (IsDB-STIF) to support its Member Countries in finding practical solutions to their key development challenges through the power of innovation. The Transform Fund is a multi-million-dollar fund that provides seed money for innovators, startups and SMEs to develop their ideas and compose a strong business proposal. Applications for the second round of the Transform Fund Call for Innovation will be accepted until May 31, 2019.

Global Financing Facility (GFF)
The Global Financing Facility (GFF), in partnership with Laerdal Global Health and the Government of Norway, has launched a Call for Proposals from organizations which can accelerate uptake of proven innovations to reduce maternal and newborn mortality around the time of birth and in the immediate postnatal period. In collaboration with national governments, the goal is to demonstrate and document how accelerated and sustainable delivery of such innovations will help countries achieve the life-saving impacts required to meet ambitious maternal and newborn mortality targets and, through this, facilitate further implementation across relevant GFF countries. Five grants are expected to be awarded through this Call, each with an expected implementation period of three years from inception of activities. Each grant is expected to be up to US$5 million, and funding may be provided in multiple tranches. Application deadline is April 30, 2019 16:00 GMT.
