We were lucky as she was an elementary school teacher so she knew what to do to keep our attention. From choosing the books to the tone of her voice; teaching us to love books was one of the major lessons she taught us as children. Later as a parent I was determined to do the same.

My husband and I read to our children, now four and seven every night. Even if it is a late night we chose a really short story and still make the effort to read. I try my best to use voices and add color to the scenes so my kids remember me reading to them as fondly as I remember my mum reading to me.  I went as far as to import a lot of the books I grew up with in Australia to my home in Los Angeles so I could share a part of my childhood with my kids.
