María Casilda Lasso de la Vega is Professor of Economics at the University of the Basque Country. She holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of the Basque Country, DEA in Mathematics from the University Claude Bernard-Lyon I (France) and a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Zaragoza (Spain). She has taught Math for Economists, Optimal Control Theory and Operations Research for undergraduates, and Optimization and Social Choice and Welfare for PhD students. She was visiting Professor at the University of Oxford (OPHI), at the University of Manchester (BWPI), at the Université Montpellier I (France), at the Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona (Italy) and at Insubria University, Varese (Italy).

Professor Lasso de la Vega's research focuses on the study of social welfare, inequality and poverty from an axiomatic point of view. She has contributed to the characterization of inequality, poverty and segregation measures. Her research has been published in Economic Theory, International Economic Review,The Journal of Economic Inequality, Review of Income and Wealth and Social Choice and Welfare among others.

She is member of ECINEQ (Association for the study of Economic Inequality).
