The SGIker teaches the "Search for quality information" Workshop for students of 4th of ESO at La Salle School (Bilbao) (2018/02/13)
First publication date: 13/02/2018
Framed in a set of activities aimed at generating scientific vocation among young people of the ESO, the Scientometry Unit of the General Services of Research (SGIker) of the UPV/EHU, has taught the workshop How to look for quality information ? to a total of 37 students of the 4th year of the ESO of La Salle School, in a Computer Room of the School of Engineering of the UPV/EHU in Bilbao, on Friday, February 2nd, 2018.
During the workshop, the participating students, made up of 20 women and 17 men, from this school from Bilbao have learned which are the main sources used by scientists to search for data, as well as the most efficient strategies for locating contrasted and quality information. At the end of the session, the young people presented the work done in a group showing the results found in the different databases analyzed (Web of Science, Scopus, Medline), as well as other sources of information on the deep internet.
This initiative responds to the line of action that the SGIker have been developing since the 2015-2016 academic year at the UPV/EHU, to encourage among the youngest ones their inclination towards scientific careers, showing them different facets of the research activity.
