Laburpena:

FLEXICON - Flexible Control Systems Development and Integration Environment for Distributed Systems. The FLEXICON project (IST-2001-37269-FLEXICON) specifically addresses the development of the capability to produce open, high performance, dependable, distributed fault tolerant systems in reduced timescales and at lower cost.

The objective of FLEXICON is to provide an integrated suite of tools to support all the development life-cycle phases - simulation/modelling, development and implementation - in the production of high performance, dependable distributed systems.

The FLEXICON toolset for distributed Industrial Process Measurement Control Systems (IPMCS) presents a tool integration approach for supporting the development cycle of distributed industrial control applications. The core of the approach is a formal model of the application that expresses separately the functionality of the control system from the implementation issues. The modelling language selected is XML (eXtensible Markup Language) and the framework proposed makes use of XML technologies for achieving the integration of the tools involved within the development life cycle of the application

The Framework integrates a set of COTS tools for modelling, analysis and simulation, and PLC programming purposes. It also integrates specifically developed tools for supporting the whole development cycle of these types of applications:

Tools for selecting the hardware architecture (Through Life Cost and Reliability Modelling Tools).

An IEC 61131-3 standard code generator using the Structured Text (ST) language.

A tool that fits the IEC 61131-3 software model to the proprietary PLC software model.

A Co-simulation application that allows closing the loop between the control system and the process model.
