The workshop held at the Faculty of Arts brought together European university alliances (ENLIGHT, YUFE, ECIU, ARQUS, EUTOPIA), researchers and stakeholders to explore how Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) and transnational collaboration can boost impact and shape the next generation of joint European degree programmes.

The Faculty of Arts at the University of the Basque Country (EHU) was the venue chosen to host a workshop centred on Challenge-Based Learning and the future of degrees in the Humanities. The opening of the event was presided over by the Rector of EHU, Joxerramon Bengoetxea Caballero.

The event was attended by academic staff from ten higher education institutions and five European Universities (or international university alliances, such as ENLIGHT, the European University to which the University of the Basque Country belongs). European universities are on a mission to transform European higher education by strengthening international collaboration amongst themselves and promoting this type of innovative, active education, which is highly focused on solving complex, real-world problems and closely engaged with diverse communities (from very different national, cultural and academic backgrounds).

ENLIGHT European University

ENLIGHT is a European university alliance of ten leading research-intensive universities, promoting collaboration between academic teams from the universities in the alliance; this workshop has been funded through ENLIGHT’s support initiatives.

With a presence in ten European countries (Belgium, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland), these universities educate more than 350,000 students a year and share a deep commitment to social responsibility. This network promotes equitable quality of life, sustainability and global engagement through the transformation of higher education.

In short, ENLIGHT aims for a fundamental transformation of European higher education, removing all barriers to learning, research and cooperation.
