Researchers from the Product Design Laboratory (PDL) in cooperation with IHOBE (publicly-owned company coming under the Basque Government's Ministry for the Environment, Territorial Planning and Housing) develop new concepts of Ecodesign and perform Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) calculations of new products and materials. In the new context of Circular Economy we are aligned with the Basque Strategy for Circular Economy 2030 and the recently published European Green Pact.

This research line aims at developing an algorithm for the semi-automatic extraction of geometric features from a triangular mesh, in order to generate a CAD model so that the geometric, topological and dimensional constraints of the original design can be recovered.

Another research line of the laboratory is based on biomedical research and is focused on developing a photogrammetry approach for the acquisition of facial surfaces. Nowadays, there is a collaboration Project with BIOCRUCES Bizkaia Health Research Institute aiming at developing a digital face and new digital steps on virtual surgery.
