Graduated (1994) and Doctor (2001) in Biological Sciences at UPV/EHU. Since 2003, ecology lecturer in the Grade of Environmental Sciences (UPV/EHU), where he is coordinator of the 2nd course since 2011. Lecturer in the MSc “Erasmus Mundus MSc. MER”, “EPE” and “BFGE” (UPV/EHU). He owns 2 recognized 5-yr teaching terms.
He is a researcher member of the team of Ecology of Zooplankton, of the consolidated research group on Marine and Estuarine Plankton (UPV/EHU), and researcher of the PIE (Plentziako Itsas Estazioa). Member of the “Working Group of Zooplankton Ecology” integrated into the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea and of the European working group Eurobus (Towards a EURopean OBervatory of the invasive calanoid copepod Pseudodiaptomus marinUS). He has supervised 1 PhD, 1 MSc thesis and 14 BSc theses. He has participated in 19 projects of investigation, 1 of them as principal researcher. He has signed 22 contracts with companies. He is coauthor of 33 scientific publications (h-index: 15), 3 book chapter and 4 popular publications and has presented more than 80 contributions in state and international congresses. He owns 3 recognized 6-yr research terms by the CNEAI.
His investigation is focused on the impact of climate and anthropogenic forces on the spatiotemporal changes in distribution, composition and structure of estuarine and marine zooplankton, and his value as bioindicator.
