I have a Degree (1997) and a PhD (2002) in Pharmacy (UPV/EHU), and I hold a permanent research position at the Department of Neuroscience since 2017. I am a member of the Achucarro Centre for Neuroscience and of the Biocruces Bizkaia Health Research Institute. My main research focus is brain endocannabinoid system and its role in neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric conditions. During my predoctoral stage at the UPV/EHU and the University of Cantabria, I investigated the expression and function of brain CB1 cannabinoid receptors using biochemical and radiometric assays. Later on, I moved to the NeuroCentre Magendie (Bordeaux, France) where I gained experience in electrophysiological recording techniques in brain slices. Nowadays, my research activity focuses on the study of the SEC as a regulator of tissue damage and repair in demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

I have participated in 24 research projects being a principal researcher in 6 of them. I am coauthor of 24 research articles, 4 book chapters and more than 60 communications to scientific meetings. I have supervised 2 International Doctoral Theses, 4 Master Theses and 3 Final Degree Projects, at the UPV/EHU. I am a member of the Board of Directors of the SEIC since 2013 and I belong to the national network CIBERNED since 2007.
