Uliana's experience:

My stay as a Ukrainian student at the EHU, in the English Studies program, truly divided my life into “before” and “after.” This experience became something far greater than studying abroad. It gave me what I had been missing because of the war in Ukraine: the atmosphere of real student life, live communication, support, the warmth of new friendships, and the freedom to feel part of a university community again.

For the past four years of war, I have not had the opportunity to study in a traditional format, to see classmates and teachers in person, or to interact face-to-face. That is why, here, for the first time in so long, I felt what real classroom learning is; lively, emotional, and filled with meaningful interaction.

Academically, I was impressed not only by the high level of teaching at EHU but also by the sincerity and kindness of the professors. Their support, openness to discussion, and encouragement to think broadly and analyze deeply left a lasting impact on me. Working with materials, participating in group discussions, and experiencing the faculty’s warm and welcoming environment helped me rediscover true motivation for learning.

I am especially grateful for the university-organized trips. The visit to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao introduced me to inspiring contemporary art and extraordinary architecture. Meanwhile, the trip to the Basilica of Arantzazu offered a moment of profound peace; the silence of the mountains and the spiritual atmosphere of the site left a deep mark on me.

But the greatest gift was the people. I met friends from different countries, and their kindness and support made this period truly special. Shared trips, conversations enriched my life as much as my academic growth.

This journey changed me. It brought back my confidence, courage, and the feeling that many new opportunities lie ahead.
