Sara Fernández Roqueñi
About me
Sara holds a degree in biomedical sciences from the University of Cantabria. She completed her undergraduate thesis (TFG) at the department of pharmacology and physiology of the same university, focusing her study on the antioxidant properties and neuroprotective effects of resveratrol and metformin in an adult animal model of Down syndrome and Alzheimer's disease.
After completing a master's degree in pharmacology at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), she developed her master's thesis (TFM) by implementing the recording of neuronal activity in the hippocampus and amygdala during behavioral tests using fiber photometry. This project was carried out through a collaboration between the department of pharmacology at the UPV/EHU and the Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience (BCN).
Currently, she is a predoctoral researcher at the neuropharmacology laboratory, where her research focuses on the role of the parasubthalamic nucleus in the development and treatment of cognitive and psychiatric symptoms in Parkinson's disease.
