Brief CV
Teresa studied biotechnology at the University of Zaragoza (Unizar) and earned her master's degree in molecular biology and biomedicine at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). In 2023, she completed her PhD at the laboratory of autism and translational social neuroscience (UPV/EHU), under the supervision of Dr. Olga Peñagarikano and Dr. Shira Knafo.
During her doctoral studies, her research focused on cortical excitation and inhibition alterations observed in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as well as dopaminergic changes associated with social behavior in the same disorder. Her PhD also included a research stay at Dr. Talia Lerner’s laboratory at Northwestern University (Chicago), where she specialized in cutting-edge techniques such as fiber photometry.
Teresa joined the neuropharmacology group in 2024 through a postdoctoral fellowship from the Basque government. This grant allows her to spend two years at the University of Bordeaux with Dr. Jérôme Baufreton, followed by two years returning to our group with Dr. Cristina Miguélez. Her current research focuses on the side effects of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Parkinson's disease, specifically examining the interaction between limbic nuclei and the basal ganglia.
