Igor Ayesta received the M.Sc. degree and the Ph.D. degree in telecommunications engineering from the University of the Basque Country, in 2010 and 2013, respectively. His Ph.D. work focused on the theoretical and experimental analysis of light propagation properties in active polymer optical fibres. He was a recipient of a European acknowledgement of the Ph.D. degree and the thesis was awarded as the Best Thesis in 2013. Nowadays, he is Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of the Basque Country. He was also been enrolled as engineer in the industrial company Incoesa Trafos, S.A. as well as postdoctoral researcher in the research centre Ik4-IDEKO. Dr. Ayesta has contributed to the publication of 19 research papers, receiving more than 215 citations, which implies an h-index of 8. Moreover, he has contributed in more than 20 international conferences, 5 times as invited speaker, and in five national conferences. Furthermore,he is also the inventor of a European patent. At present, his research topics include theoretical and experimental study of doped polymer optical fibres and ultrafast spectroscopy.
