Graduate Student Fellowships for Alternatives to the Use of Animals in Science 2019

The 2019 Application Cycle for Graduate Student Fellowships for Alternatives to the Use of Animals in Science is now open. Applications are due no later than 11:59 PM CST on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. Our fellowships provide up to $12,500 annually in stipendiary support and up to $2,500 for supplies per year. The fellowships are renewable annually for up to three years. Continued funding is dependent on student progress and availability of funds. Fellowships are awarded to those candidates enrolled in Master’s and Ph.D. programs in the sciences whose proposals show the greatest potential to reduce, refine or replace the use of animals in research, testing, and/or education.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

A Pre-Proposal Application must be submitted using the online portal ( http://www.ifer.org/grant/ ) that includes the following information:

  1. Body of Pre-Proposal:
    • Descriptive title
    • Current contact information, including: name, address, university, email address, and telephone number
    • Faculty sponsor’s name and contact information
    • An abstract of no more than 250 words
    • A brief description of the proposed training program (no more than 1,500 words), including methods used for evaluation of student performance and progress and a plan for dissemination of relevant knowledge during and after completion of the project.
    • A brief description of the proposed project (no more than 1,500 words)
  2. A bibliography citing relevant source materials.
  3. The full curriculum vitae for the faculty sponsor(s) (please limit to 1,500 words).
  4. A brief description of the institution and facilities available for this project.
  5. Copies of recent publications by the faculty sponsor and/or student applicant on topics related to the proposed research (if any).
  6. Please indicate how you heard about this fellowship opportunity.
