Eva Portillo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering at the Bilbao School of Engineering (UPV/EHU). She earned her PhD in Engineering in 2007 and received the Prize for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis in 2010. She has received several awards at national conferences and has published more than 30 scientific papers in high-quality JCR journals, including IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems.



Her thesis supervision includes three theses with International Distinction, two with Industrial Distinction, two Accésits at the Spanish Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis in Intelligent Control, and one Prize for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis at UPV/EHU.



In 2016, she was a visiting professor at the Knowledge Engineering and Discovery Research Institute (KEDRI) at Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand. She has also visited ENSIAS (Rabat), Czech Technical University (Prague), and IIT Madras (India).



She has been awarded the Mention of Excellence in the Docentiaz program, promoted by UPV/EHU, for the periods 2019–2023 and 2024–2029. She has three six-year research periods recognized by CNEAI, and UNIBASQ has positively evaluated her accreditation as a Full Professor in the field of Technical Education at UPV/EHU.



From 2017 to 2019, Eva Portillo served as Vice-Dean of the Master’s and Doctoral School at UPV/EHU. Since 2019, she is the Academic Secretary of the Doctoral School at UPV/EHU.
