Francisco Javier Fernández Galarreta
Doctor in Law by the UPV/EHU, in the year 2021. Master in Legal Sociology by the IISJ of Oñati, in 2005, and Bachelor in Law by the UPV/EHU, in 2003.
In 2004, he began his professional career as a member of the Bar Association of Gipuzkoa. With his own office, and as a practicing professional, he focuses his activity acting on behalf of his clients before the courts of San Sebastian in all types of civil, criminal, contentious-administrative proceedings, as well as acting in bankruptcy proceedings, exchange, family proceedings, etc.
He began his academic activity in 2005, as an interim professor in the Department of Public Law of the UPV/EHU, in the delegated section of Bizkaia, teaching in the area of Criminal Law. This activity he will combine with his own activity in his office for fourteen years. During this period, he has been an honorary collaborator of the UPV/EHU, receiving and training, in his professional office, students of the UPV/EHU, within the regulated programs of external practices offered by the university. Likewise, he has participated, in collaboration with the Gipuzkoa Bar Association, in the organization of several conferences and seminars of continuous training, on topics related to the process of execution, seizure, judicial auction and procedural costs. Additionally, in 2009 he taught as a tutor professor of Criminal Law at the UNED.
Currently, and since 2017, he has been a full-time lecturer in the area of Procedural Law and Administrative Law at the UPV/EHU, teaching the different courses of Procedural Law and Administrative Law, in Spanish, Basque and English.
His main line of research focuses, within the field of Procedural Law, Administrative Law and the legal professions in the field of the administration of justice, on the study of the models of Procedural Representation in Comparative Law. Within this line of research, he has published a monograph dedicated to the figure of the procurator under the title La procura a juicio with the publishing house JM Bosch. He also has developed another line of research related to the study of the impact of new technologies and artificial intelligence in the field of the administration of justice, as a result of which he has published an article entitled “Derecho de defensa e inteligencia artificial. Reflexión crítica acerca de la repercusión de la inteligencia artificial en la profesión de abogado”, in a collective work, Contra la política criminal de la tolerancia cero, Ed. Thomson Reuters Aranzadi, Pamplona 2021.
