Omar García Zabaleta
I hold a PhD in Philosophy, Science and Values from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) (2017). I am currently a lecturer in the Department of Social Psychology at the University of the Basque Country (EHU), with an accredited six-year research period (sexenio de investigación).
Between 2011 and 2019, I was a member of the IAS Research Centre for Life, Mind and Society, where I participated in several research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) and the Basque Government. I am currently a member of the Aktiba-IT Research Group on Practices, Learning and Values (IT1762-22). I have also held research stays at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the National University of Córdoba (Argentina), and the University of Buenos Aires (UBA).
My research focuses on the concepts of autonomy and identity across ethics, psychology, and education, and I have published several works in these areas. My most recent research examines the identity of the Basque diaspora in Argentina, as well as the relationship between identity, social justice, and minoritized languages.
More broadly, my work explores the conceptualization of identity in interdisciplinary contexts, combining theoretical reflection with empirically informed approaches to understand how identities are constructed and negotiated across social and cultural settings.
