Short biography

Maider Iturrondobeitia Ellacuria, Chemical Engineer, University of the Basque Country (2006), PhD in Materials Science and Technology, University of the Basque Country (2014), is Associate Professor at Bilbao School of Engineering (EHU) since 2020, and belongs to the Department of Graphic Expression and Engineering Projects. Her teaching focuses on Graphic Expression (Degrees in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic and Automatic Engineering), ‘Life Cycle Thinking’ (Master in Circular Economy and application in business-EHU) and ‘Product life Cycle Management’ and ‘Sustainability’ sessions (European Master in Project Management- EHU). She is also member of the direction panel member of the European Master in project management and the academic secretary of the Doctoral program in Engineering Project Management and Sustainable Processes, in the Engineering School of Bilbao. She has been employed in Industrial Companies, Research centers and finally, in 2010 she returned as a predoctoral researcher to the University of the Basque Country, where she did her doctorate in bionanocomposites. Her research career topic is ‘ Polymers for sustainable future’. Her research has been focused on the design, processing and characterization of micro and nano polymeric composites, specializing in bio based and biodegradable bioplastics and industrial composites. She has also specialized in Life Cycle Analysis, LCA techniques for the quantification of environmental impacts of the life cycle of plastic products. Techniques that she implements in her research related to the plastic sector and / or other sectors. Maider has carried out three predoctoral stays, financed by scholarships obtained in the European ESTEEM funds, at the Max Planck Institute in Stuttgart. Since 2006 she has actively participated in more than 50 (IP in 9) research projects both in a private company and as a member of the university. She has directed two doctoral thesis defended in 2020 and 2023 is currently directing another three which defenses are expected to be in 2025, 2027 and 2028. She has supervises yearly several TFMs and TFGs. She actively participates in Erasmus + and Enlight projects, where she has lectured master's courses (Trondheim, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU) and 'training courses' at KU-Leuven.
