• Graduate in Basque Philology (UPV/EHU, 1991) and PhD in Linguistics (Universiteit Leiden, 2001), with a recognized research career (known as “sexenios” in the Spanish University system). She is currently working as Associate Professor at the Department of Linguistics and Basque Studies of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), teaching various topics on general linguistics, morphology and syntax in both graduate and undergraduate courses. She is the coordinator of the Basque Linguistics and Philology MA program of the UPV/EHU since 2014, and is also a member of the Academic PhD Program on Basque Linguistics and Philology of the UPV/EHU since 2012.

• Her main areas of research, manifested in her publications and talks, include the following: a) constituent word order (basically in Basque), b) different types of foci and its syntactic representation in Basque, c) the position of finite verb forms in main and embedded clauses, d) mismatches in the prosody and syntax of focalized constituents, and e) Basque complementizers.

• She has participated in various research projects, and is currently co-leading a research on modal functional particles in Basque (VASFUN), granted by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, InnovaciĆ³n y Universidades, and is an active member of the Research Group HiTT, recognized by the Basque Government .
