Now Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the people of Ammon, saying, "What do you have against me, that you have come to fight against me in my land?"

And the king of the people of Ammon answered the messengers of Jephthah, "Because Israel took away my land when they came up out of Egypt, from the Arnon as far as the Jabbok, and to the Jordan. Now therefore, restore those [lands] peaceably."

and said to him, "Thus says Jephthah: 'Israel did not take away the land of Moab, nor the land of the people of Ammon;

'for when Israel came up from Egypt, they walked through the wilderness as far as the Red Sea and came to Kadesh.

'Then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, "Please let me pass through your land." But the king of Edom would not heed. And in like manner they sent to the king of Moab, but he would not [consent.] So Israel remained in Kadesh.

'Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, "Please let us pass through your land into our place."

'They took possession of all the territory of the Amorites, from the Arnon to the Jabbok and from the wilderness to the Jordan.

'Will you not possess whatever Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whatever the LORD our God takes possession of before us, we will possess.

Vaux-tu donc mieux que Balak, fils de Tsippor, roi de Moab ? A-t-il contest? avec Isra?l, ou lui a-t-il fait la guerre ?

'And now, [are] you any better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever strive against Israel? Did he ever fight against them?

'While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and its villages, in Aroer and its villages, and in all the cities along the banks of the Arnon, for three hundred years, why did you not recover [them] within that time?

'Therefore I have not sinned against you, but you wronged me by fighting against me. May the LORD, the Judge, render judgment this day between the children of Israel and the people of Ammon.' "

However, the king of the people of Ammon did not heed the words which Jephthah sent him.

Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh, and passed through Mizpah of Gilead; and from Mizpah of Gilead he advanced [toward] the people of Ammon.

And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD, and said, "If You will indeed deliver the people of Ammon into my hands,

"then it will be that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the people of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD's, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering."

Joan zen, beraz, Jefte amondarren kontra borrokara eta Jaunak eskura eman zizkion etsaiak.

Jeft? fue a pelear contra los hijos de Am?n, y Jehov? los entreg? en sus manos.

Jephth? marcha contre les fils d'Ammon, et l'?ternel les livra entre ses mains.

So Jephthah advanced toward the people of Ammon to fight against them, and the LORD delivered them into his hands.

Aroertik Minitera arteko hogei hiritan garaitu zituen, Aben-Keramimeraino. Garaipen izugarria izan zen. Horrela menperatu zituzten israeldarrek amondarrak.

Desde Aroer y hasta llegar a Minit conquist? veinte ciudades, y hasta la Vega de las vi?as los derrot? con gran estrago. As? fueron sometidos los amonitas por los hijos de Israel.

Il leur fit ?prouver une tr?s grande d?faite, depuis Aro?r jusque vers Minnith, espace qui renfermait vingt villes, et jusqu'? Abel -Keramim. Et les fils d'Ammon furent humili?s devant les enfants d'Isra?l.

And he defeated them from Aroer as far as Minnith -- twenty cities -- and to Abel Keramim, with a very great slaughter. Thus the people of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.

Jefte Mitzpara, bere etxera, heldu zenean, alaba atera zitzaion ongi etorria egitera, danbolina joz eta dantzari. Jeftek ez zuen beste semerik, ez alabarik, huraxe besterik.

Cuando volvi? Jeft? a Mizpa, a su casa, su hija sali? a recibirlo con panderos y danzas. Ella era sola, su hija ?nica; fuera de ella no ten?a hijo ni hija.

Jephth? retourna dans sa maison ? Mitspa. Et voici, sa fille sortit au-devant de lui avec des tambourins et des danses. C'?tait son unique enfant; il n'avait point de fils et point d'autre fille.

When Jephthah came to his house at Mizpah, there was his daughter, coming out to meet him with timbrels and dancing; and she [was his] only child. Besides her he had neither son nor daughter.

D?s qu'il la vit, il d?chira ses v?tements, et dit: Ah ! ma fille ! tu me jettes dans l'abattement, tu es au nombre de ceux qui me troublent ! J'ai fait un voeu ? l'?ternel, et je ne puis le r?voquer.

And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he tore his clothes, and said, "Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low! You are among those who trouble me! For I have given my word to the LORD, and I cannot go back on it."

Alabak erantzun zion: -Ene aita, Jaunari hitz eman badiozu, egin nirekin hitz emandakoa, Jaunak ere menpean jarri baitizkizu etsaiak, amondarrak.

Ella entonces le respondi?: -- Padre m?o, si le has dado tu palabra a Jehov?, haz conmigo conforme a lo que prometiste, ya que Jehov? te ha permitido vengarte de tus enemigos, los hijos de Am?n.

Elle lui dit: Mon p?re, si tu as fait un voeu ? l'?ternel, traite -moi selon ce qui est sorti de ta bouche, maintenant que l'?ternel t'a veng? de tes ennemis, des fils d'Ammon.

So she said to him, "My father, [if] you have given your word to the LORD, do to me according to what has gone out of your mouth, because the LORD has avenged you of your enemies, the people of Ammon."

Gero esan zion: -Baina emadazu honako hau: bi hilabetez mendiz mendi neure lagunekin negarrez ibiltzea, ezkondu baino lehen hil behar dudalako.

Y a?adi?: -- Conc?deme esto: d?jame que por dos meses vaya y descienda por los montes a llorar mi virginidad junto con mis compa?eras.

Et elle dit ? son p?re: Que ceci me soit accord?: laisse -moi libre pendant deux mois ! Je m'en irai, je descendrai dans les montagnes, et je pleurerai ma virginit? avec mes compagnes.

Then she said to her father, "Let this thing be done for me: let me alone for two months, that I may go and wander on the mountains and bewail my virginity, my friends and I."

So he said, "Go." And he sent her away [for] two months; and she went with her friends, and bewailed her virginity on the mountains.

And it was so at the end of two months that she returned to her father, and he carried out his vow with her which he had vowed. She knew no man. And it became a custom in Israel

[that] the daughters of Israel went four days each year to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite.

Then the men of Ephraim gathered together, crossed over toward Zaphon, and said to Jephthah, "Why did you cross over to fight against the people of Ammon, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house down on you with fire!"

Jeftek erantzun: -Nik eta nire jendeak amondarrekin eztabaida gogorra izan genuenean, eskatu nizuen laguntza, baina zuek ez gintuzuen libratu haiengandik.

Jeft? les respondi?: -- Yo y mi pueblo ten?amos una gran contienda con los hijos de Am?n; os llam?, pero no me defendisteis de ellos.

Jephth? leur r?pondit: Nous avons eu de grandes contestations, moi et mon peuple, avec les fils d'Ammon; et quand je vous ai appel?s, vous ne m'avez pas d?livr? de leurs mains.

And Jephthah said to them, "My people and I were in a great struggle with the people of Ammon; and when I called you, you did not deliver me out of their hands.

"So when I saw that you would not deliver [me,] I took my life in my hands and crossed over against the people of Ammon; and the LORD delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day to fight against me?"

Orduan, Jeftek, Galaadeko gizonak bildurik, efraimdarrei eraso eta menperatu egin zituen. Efraimdarrek esan ohi zuten, Efraim eta Manasesen lurralde artean bizi ziren galaadtarrak efraimdarren artetik alde eginak zirela.

Entonces reuni? Jeft? a todos los hombres de Galaad y pele? contra Efra?n. Y los de Galaad derrotaron a Efra?n, porque hab?an dicho: "Vosotros sois fugitivos de Efra?n, vosotros los galaaditas, que habit?is entre Efra?n y Manas?s".

Now Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead and fought against Ephraim. And the men of Gilead defeated Ephraim, because they said, "You Gileadites [are] fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites [and] among the Manassites."

The Gileadites seized the fords of the Jordan before the Ephraimites [arrived.] And when [any] Ephraimite who escaped said, "Let me cross over," the men of Gilead would say to him, "[Are] you an Ephraimite?" If he said, "No,"
