How to declare the use of generative AI
A declaration of use is mandatory whenever AI has contributed to the process or content of an academic assignment, even if no literal AI-generated text is included.
The declaration of AI use must always appear in a visible section of the document. In general, it is recommended:
- In undergraduate theses, master’s theses, and doctoral dissertations: In the Methodology section or in a specific section at the end of the document (“Use of generative AI tools”), depending on the guidelines of the faculty or centre.
- Some of the elements that are declared may also need to be formally cited.
- In coursework assignments: In an initial or final note (footnote) or within the methodological section when applicable.
