He was an internal student and a predoctoral fellow before obtaining a Doctorate in Biological Sciences from the UPV/EHU. For two years, he was a postdoc in Texas, an activity he left to become a lecturer at the UPV/EHU. He taught at different Faculties and since 2001 he works at the Faculty of Pharmacy. He is currently Vice-Dean. His research focused primarily on the diagnosis and epidemiology of Candida albicans, and later on bacterial typing (Salmonella) and development of bioinformatics tools. He has also participated in educational projects and activities, teaching coordination activities and scientific dissemination activities.
