Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

The course offers the students a first image of the company and its operation, transferring the language of the discipline and each of the areas in the company, so that the student is able to handle it with ease. In this sense, this subject serves to contextualise the contents of other subjects studied towards the degree, making it easier for the student to study. We could say that the course creates a framework, and therefore defines the contours of the collage made up of the other subjects of the degree, particularly those of “Company Management” and the “Company Economy” module.

The subject also aims to explain the task of company management and how it has been understood and carried out in recent history, emphasising some of its more common tools. Students are expected to understand these tools and their usefulness, to be able to handle them in simple situations, and to acquire the ability to explain to others how they can be used, as well as their virtues and defects; all of which are basic cognitive skills for the person who is going to develop a managerial job in any company.

Skills/Learning outcomes of the subjectToggle Navigation

The specific competences of the course are:

C1. An ability to analyse the real situation of companies using the concepts and models of management theory

C2. An ability to diagnose organisational problems using the basic management tools

The horizontal competences are:

C3. An ability to apply logical arguments in the understanding and evaluation of administrative doctrines and management tools.

C4. An ability to clearly express one’s own ideas and those of others, and convey to others their own ideals, values and ambitions

The evaluation will consist on a set of written exams (two) that will assess the competences dealt with in the lectures. Each of these exams will deal with half of the contents and will evaluate the development of C1, C2, C3, C4 competences. The dates of the exams will be around week seven/eight and fourteen/fifteen of the term.

The exams will have three types of questions: written long-answer questions, multiple-choice test and/or practical questions.

The final mark will be the arithmetic mean of the results obtained in these exams. Failure to attend one of these tests will result in a score of zero in the test.

Students who wish to renounce to the continuous evaluation system will have to present a document to the teacher in any moment during the course and before the final exam date. The document in order to renounce to the continuous valuation system will be available in Egela.
