Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation
This course is an introduction to Data Analysis and Statistics focusing on basic concepts and techniques that are most used in Economics. With a practice-oriented approach, students will learn to interpret and communicate statistical results and to apply it to the design, development and analysis of simple research studies in Economics.
Skills/Learning outcomes of the subjectToggle Navigation
Competences:
- Understand the logic of statistics and its usefulness in the field of economics and business.
- Identify the mathematical elements that characterize probability distributions, both discrete and continuous (probability
function, moments, etc.), to operate correctly with them and to know their properties.
- Search and synthesize the relevant statistical information to analyze an economic problem.
- Describe and interpret the information contained in a set of economic data using graphical analysis and the main
descriptive statistics, as well as using the appropriate statistical software.
- Present in a clear and systematic way the conclusions obtained in the descriptive analysis of economic data.
These specific competences are linked to the competences of the module: M02CM05.
Learning outcomes:
- Identification and search for statistical information relevant to the analysis of an economic or business problem.
- Analysis and interpretation of a set of statistical data.
- Structuring, preparation and presentation of reports with statistical results.

I.-DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS
1. Single variable
2. Two variables
3. Index numbers
II.- PROBABILITY
4. Foundations of probability
5. Random variables and expected values of a random variable
MethodologyToggle Navigation
Two weekly master classes will be given, each of them of one hour and a half of duration, which will be complemented with an additional hour of practice that will be devoted mainly to the resolution of exercises.
Assessment systemsToggle Navigation
- Final Assessment System
- Tools and qualification percentages:
- n addition to the written exam, activities may be proposed with a weight of 10-30% in the final grade. Due to the specific circumstances of each course, the percentage corresponding to the continuous evaluation may be increased. (%): 100

CONTINUOUS EVALUATION:
The student will be able to choose continuous evaluation, in which activities and tasks will be proposed to obtain between 10% and 30% of the final grade (to be specified in the Egela student's guide). In addition, the student must take the final exam to obtain the remaining 90%-70% of the final grade. The points obtained in the continuous evaluation will only be added to the final grade if the student has obtained a minimum grade in the final exam, which will be specified in the Egela student's guide.
Students may waive the continuous evaluation atlatest one month before the end of the teaching period. This waiver must be submitted in writing to the teacher responsible for the course.
In the case of having waived the continuous evaluation, failure to take the final written test will result in a grade of not submitted or not presented.
FINAL EVALUATION:
As stated in the Student Evaluation Regulations, students have the right to be evaluated by means of the final evaluation system, regardless of whether or not they have participated in the continuous evaluation system. The final evaluation will be by means of a final written exam.
