Alvaro Aragón Ruano (Oiartzun, 9th of November, 1969) took his degree in History at the University of Deusto (1992) and moved to the University of the Basque Country in order to make his PhD. Nowadays, he is an Aggregate professor at the University of the Basque Country, but between 2001 and 2005 he was a substitute teacher at the University of the Basque Country, sharing it with his teaching labour at UPPA.

He made some research fellowships at the Basque Center Studies of the University of Nevada, at UPPA and at the University of Valladolid. Despite, at the beginning of his career, he was devoted to the Basque Forest and Stockbreeding History, currently, without leaving that branch, he shares it with the analysis of Basque Trade's History. He has turned back to the history of Forest, but centered on the 18th century and the Pyrenees Mountains, in the context of the rebuilding of Spanish Navy during the Bourbons. At the same time, he is researching on the identity and border discourses developed by Basque territories. He published many articles in journals of impact, such as Atlantic Studies, Journal of European Economic History, International Journal of Maritime History, Studia Histórica or Obradoiro de Historia Moderna.
