Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

This subject is intended to provide the students with a precise knowledge of the events and historical processes related to contemporary Basque Country from the nineteenth century to the present. Departing from the crisis of the traditional society, the Carlist wars and the constitutionalization of the Fueros, this subject stresses the economic, social and cultural changes that transformed the Basque Country from the end of the nineteenth century onwards. These changes resulted in the characteristic pluralism during the Restauración period (1876-1930) and the Second Spanish Republic, which ended abruptly due to the Civil War and Franco's dictatorship. Finally, the Transición to democracy from 1975 and the recovery of the Basque autonomy (1979) marked a new era still producing effect in the Basque Country.
