Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

In this experimental course, laboratory work associated with various theoretical contents of different courses (Mechanical Waves and Oscillations, Electromagnetism and Electromagnetic Waves, and Electronics) is carried out. These laboratory practicals provide a complementary perspective to the phenomena described in the theoretical courses. The experimental method, measurement techniques and instrumental technology will be mainly worked on.

The competencies that will be worked on in this course are:

- Planning and safely solving simple science and engineering problems.

- Getting to know basic experimental techniques used in physics and / or electronic engineering.

- Skillfully setting up the experiments, and appropriately using measurement instrumentation, promoting group work.

- Communicating, both orally and in writing, knowledge, results and ideas based on or related to the experimental techniques.

These competencies are a concretion of the competencies defined at module and / or course level in the curricula of the Electronic Engineering Degree and the Physics Degree.

Theoretical and practical contentToggle Navigation

The laboratory hands-on sessions carried out in this subject are divided into two blocks:



Block A: Oscillations, mechanical waves, electromagnetism and electromagnetic waves



- Forced and damped oscillations (M1)

- Standing waves on a string (M2)

- Electron charge / mass ratio (EM1)

- Variation of resistance with temperature (metals and semiconductors) (EM2)

- Magnetic fields of magnets and coils (EM3)

- Wavelength measurement and radiation diagram of a microwave transmitter (EM4)



Block B: Electronics



- Basic applications with diodes (E1)

- Basic applications with operational amplifiers (E2)

- Active filters for audio equalization (E3)



In addition to these obligatory laboratory practicals, and depending on the case, some extra laboratory practicals can be proposed to be carried out in order to deepen the student's knowledge:



- Thermoelectricity: Seebeck Effect

- Electric field and equipotential surfaces tracing

- The RC circuit as a filter

MethodologyToggle Navigation

The course consists of a seminar (4 hours) and laboratory hands-on sessions (56 hours).



The seminar is held before the laboratory practicals and its aim is to emphasize the fundamental concepts (introduced and discussed in different courses of the degree) necessary for the development of the laboratory work. SEMINAR TYPE CLASSES ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL STUDENTS.



As for the practicals, in addition to the laboratory work, the relevant preparatory calculations and / or necessary reports should be carried out. ALL PRACTICALS (9 SESSIONS) ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL STUDENTS.



In addition, the eGela platform will be used as a means of communication with students and for the dissemination of material.

  • Tools and qualification percentages:
    • Written test to be taken (%): 30
    • Realization of Practical Work (exercises, cases or problems) (%): 70

Ordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

Assessment criteria for the continuous assessment system:

- Hands-on sessions (development/ completion in the laboratory and reports): 70% of the grade.

- Written exam that will be done after finishing the hands-on sessions: 30% of the grade.



For students who follow the continuous assessment, this is the only exam of the ordinary call.

It is necessary to pass both the practical sessions and the written exam for the average to be taken.

The evaluation of the subject will be done in blocks (A and B) and it will be necessary to pass both blocks to pass the whole subject (Block A: Mechanical waves and oscillations + Electromagnetism and electromagnetic waves. Block B: Electronics).



Students who do not want to be graded based on the continuous evaluation must submit a written request to the person responsible for the course to waive the continuous evaluation within 9 weeks from the beginning of the semester. The final evaluation system will be appllied to these students.



Evaluation criteria for the final evaluation system:

-Written exam, to be held on the official day of the exam: 30% of the grade.

-Laboratory test: 70% of the grade.

If the student passes the written test to be performed on the official exam date, he will have to take a specific practical test that will assess all the skills of the course. Successfully passing this test is necessary to pass the course.



Failure to attend the written exam set for the chosen assessment system will automatically waive the corresponding call. (In the continuous evaluation system this test will be done at the end of the laboratory works. In the case of the final evaluation system to the official exam date).

Extraordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

The evaluation of this course will be carried out through the final evaluation system and will keep the positive results obtained in the continuous evaluation.



Failure to take the test set on the official exam date will automatically waive the corresponding call.

Compulsory materialsToggle Navigation

Each student will enter the laboratory with the following materials: their laboratory notebook, paper, calculator, pen, pencil and eraser.
