She holds a BA(Hons) in English Philology from the University of Deusto (Spain) and an MPhil and PhD in Linguistics from the University of Cambridge (UK). In 2005 she joined the University of the Basque Country where she has taught courses on English Language, English Phonetics, the History of the English Language, Translation and, for the last 10 years, Maritime English.

She has mainly carried out research in the area of English syntax, more precisely, on issues of argument structure, verb valency and the syntax-semantics-pragmatics interface. Her current research interests include ongoing change and variation in English, language use and degrees of acceptability, as well as, more recently, ESP and language teaching.
