Industrial Engineer specializing in Electrical Engineering (1984-1990) completed a specialization course in Automation and Industrial Electronics (965 hours, 1991) and holds a PhD in Engineering (1999) from the UPV/EHU, where he has been a professor since 1990. He served as Head of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (2001-2004), Vice-Rector for Teaching and Research Staff (2004-2009, 2009-2011), Vice-Rector for Coordination (2011-2013) and Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation and Communication (2021-2025) at the UPV/EHU. He coordinated the Master's Program in Telecommunications Engineering from 2017 to 2021. He is a co-founder of the Telematics Engineering Group –GIT– (1995-2003) and the Research Group in Telematics Engineering –I2T– (2004), of which he is currently a member, recognized by the Basque Government as an "A" category research group. He has supervised 2 doctoral dissertations and co-supervised 2 others. He has participated in more than 50 competitive research projects, 9 of which he led. He has been the principal research on 15 research contracts with companies and has participated as a researcher in 12 others. He is a co-author of 40 journal articles (30 of which are indexed) and more than 80 conference papers. He is one of the co-founders of the spin-off company Keynetic (2017), which focuses on cybersecurity. His research interests focus on SDN/NFV, cybersecurity and blockchain application in Industry 4.0 environments
