Person, Family and Patrimony Research Group

Presentation

The “Person, Family and Patrimony” Research Group gathers a large team of civil law experts belonging to the Department of Business Law and Civil Law of the UPV/EHU, who share an incessant teaching and research concern focused on deepening, with rigour and thoroughness, in each of the different fields that give name to the Group: Personal Law, Family Law and Civil Patrimonial Law, both from a national perspective and with a particularly focused approach to Basque Civil Law, in its double competency and institutional aspect.

The “Person, Family and Patrimony” Group is recognised as a Consolidated Research Group of the Basque University System, extending its current activity, according to the latest call issued by the Basque Government, to the four-year period 2022-2025 (GIC IT-1445-22).

Throughout its whole existence, the team of researchers that integrates the Group has obtained, always with the same critical spirit and technical accuracy, remarkable scientific results, framed, in their vast majority, in several research projects endowed with competitive external funding.

Research lines

1. Requirements for a more respectful coexistence with the individuals both in their personal and family dimension: tradition and innovation.

2. Traditionally most problematic core areas of Private Law: person, contracts, damages, liability and guarantees.

3. New questions arising from our legal-political environment: the Basque civil law (the real one and the possible one).

4. New perspective on patrimonial issues within the current economic context: security interests, personal guarantees and consumer protection.
