Title: Mapping Transformative Learning- a Heroine/Hero’s Journey

Abstract: In this talk, I will introduce a self-experiential method named The Heroine’s/Hero’s journey. This method is based on the mythological work of Joseph Campbell (2004), The Hero with a Thousand Faces, originally published in 1949. The heroine/hero is the archetype who starts an adventurous journey, following her or his call into the unknown. Out of this idea, Paul Rebillot (2011) created an experiential approach in the form of a one week workshop, utilizing methods from theatre and Gestalt therapy. In this talk, I present the Heroine’s/Hero’s journey and its potential as a map for transformative learning processes and transformation in more general terms. I use the Transformative Learning theory of O’Sullivan, Morrell and O’Connor (2002) as a process of deep shifts in thoughts, feelings and actions concerning the world, ourselves and the relationships with other living beings.
