The research group IdeoLit (Literature as a Historical Document) was founded with the aim of serving as an instrument for research in the field of literary studies at the UPV/EHU.

Its main objective is to study literary texts in relation to their social, political, ideological and cultural context at various significant moments in the history of literature as well as in national and world history, paying special attention to the relationship between literary texts and power structures. In contrast to the traditional view of literature as a mere reflection of its historical context, we propose that literary texts actively collaborate in the process of constructing history; that is, they are integrated into the social, political, ideological and cultural system, and contribute to the creation of ideology, social movements, etc.

The members of the group, who belong to the field of ancient Greek literature, French, German, Spanish and Basque literature, analyze the value of these literatures as historical documents and their role in shaping various ideologies.

Another objective is to complete the research training of the Master's and Doctorate in Comparative Literature and Literary Studies through the holding of seminars, conferences, conferences and congresses.
