PhD candidate, Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna

I am a Vienna-based historian of Central Europe, focusing on the Habsburg Monarchy, but also Prussia and Poland. I recently completed my doctoral thesis on language policies and educational practices in the Polish provinces of the Habsburg and Hohenzollern monarchies around 1800. The project is based on my master thesis on the Josephinian language policy in Galicia, which received the Francis Stephen Award of the Austrian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies, and was itself awarded the Young Scholars Award of the Historical Commission of Berlin and the Theodor Körner Award. My work focuses on Enlightened absolutism, the history of Habsburg Galicia, the history of education as well as questions of language and identity. Future projects will likely address interrelationships between cultural and economic history in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
