AimsToggle Navigation
Expected competences and results from learning are these ones:
C1. Capability to build, use and manage telecommunication networks, services, processes and applications, seen these ones like systems for acquisition, transport, representation, processing, storage, management and presentation of multimedia information, from the point of view of telematic services (ref. M04TE1).
RA1.1: (Knowledge of) Fundamentals of multimedia information
RA1.2: (Knowledge and application of) Methods for coding and transmission of multimedia information.
RA1.3: (Capability to seek and understand) Multimedia applications in the field of Voice/Video IP and instant messaging.
C2. Capability to design network and telematic services (ref. M04TE6).
RA2.1: (Knowledge of several) Functional blocks in a multimedia network of services
RA2.2: (Knowledge of ) Quality parameters in a multimedia network or service.
TemaryToggle Navigation
Topic 1: Desing and deployment of access services
Topic 2: Playing of multimedia contents
Topic 3: Development of network applications with user interactivity
THEORETICAL CONTENTS:
1. Multimedia contents: Types and features. Formats for storage, coding and compression.
2. Transmission and playing of multimedia contents: Stages (real time, delayed one,...). Specific problems of quality service (latency, jitter). Specific protocolos at transport and upper layers. Techniques to improve service quality.
3. Applications: VoIP, from low level coding to transport by means of standard protocolos (mainly SIP), and hardware/software components commonly used. Instant messaging and Presence (standard protocol XMPP). HTML5, DLNA and other multimedia specifications used nowadays.
PRACTICAL CONTENTS:
Basic processing, transmission and management of multimedia contents (images, audios, voice, videos) by means of these complementary methods:
1. Basic programming (shell scripts, C, Java,...) with libraries and several software components.
2. Instalation, Configuration, Administration of server/client applications.
Note: all software components that will be used have free licence (e.g. Libmagick / graphicsMagick libraries, Libav / ffmpeg), and operating system for the environment will be Kubuntu or similar.

THEORETICAL EXPLANATIONS
* Teacher will do theoretical expositions by means of presentations (projector). Presentations do not cover all explanations at detail, so class attendance is an added value for learning, e.g. real current cases will be commented.
* During the classes, distinct concepts yet acquired at other subject or even at previous topics will be reviewed, and they will have an interaction with students.
WORKING GROUPS
* At Laboratory there will be groups composed of 2 or 3 people, empowering oral and written communication of backgrounds, procedures, ideas and results.
OTHER METHODOLOGIC OBSERVATIONS
Next capabilites will be powered:
* Developing of projects at field of telecommunication engineering.
* Organizational, economic and social aspects of the technical solutions.
* Management of specifications, recomendations and mandatory standards.
* Learning of new methods and technologies, so that a capacity to adapt to new stages is acquired.
Assessment systemsToggle Navigation
For continuous evaluation, marks are these:
* Written theoretical-practical: 45%
* Test: 30%
* Lab practices: 20%
* Team work: 3%
* Presentatión: 2%
If continuous evaluation is not preferred, mark will be the same as in extraordinary call
Notes:
* In all cases it is needed a minimum of 35% at each part.
* Lab practices: people that have done them in previous curses can keep the score or choose to repeat them..
* To abandon the call it will be enough if the student doesn't go to the exam.
