RCO1. Students deepen their knowledge of the causes that motivate public intervention (efficiency and equity) and of the policies and measures that characterise public intervention, both in terms of the design of tax systems and the main policies and items of public expenditure.
RCO10. Increasing productivity and creating jobs are key to fighting poverty and ensuring the future sustainability of pension systems. Students learn that improving competitiveness is the strategy to follow to achieve these goals, and they study how industrial and innovation policies influence competitiveness.
RCO11. Students acquire the knowledge necessary to design what is understood in OECD countries as 'sound public governance'.
RCO2. Students acquire the knowledge necessary to understand the nature of the conflict between efficiency and equity.
RCO3. Students acquire the knowledge necessary to understand how variables, such as pressure groups, political regimes, electoral systems and citizens' perceptions of justice, influence the size of the public sector.
RCO4. Students learn how issues of macroeconomic stability are addressed through fiscal and monetary policy.
RCO5. European integration imposes (micro and macroeconomic) restrictions on member countries, which require detailed knowledge because they limit other government activities. Students acquire the knowledge necessary to understand these restrictions.
RCO6. Students deepen the study of the economic effects (on economic growth, resource allocation or aggregate supply) of different taxes (direct taxes on income and capital, indirect taxes and social security contributions) and of the main items or policies of public expenditure.
RCO7. Students acquire a detailed knowledge of international tax relations. Particular emphasis is placed on the study of tax harmonisation, the elimination of double taxation and international tax cooperation.
RCO8. Fiscal federalism is another area in which students acquire specific knowledge in tax matters. The study of decentralized tax systems design is explored in depth, from both a theoretical and practical perspective. Students also acquire detailed knowledge of the Basque Public Sector as a unique example of fiscal decentralisation.
RCO9. Students acquire a detailed knowledge of public expenditure items related to the welfare state, including expenditure on goods and services and income transfers implemented through various programmes (pensions, unemployment benefits, social integration benefits, etc.) aimed at changing the distribution of income and wealth and fighting poverty.
