Los alumnos:

1. Valoran el lugar relevante de la pragmática en en la adquisición de lenguas

2. Identifican las áreas que afectan a la adquisición de la pragmática y las de intervención en la enseñanza de la L2

3. Son capaces de describir lo fundamental de dichas áreas

4. Experimentan la investigación en pragmática y su transferencia a la L2

5. Construyen herramientas didácticas para enseñar pragmática en L2

6. Elaboran una lección didáctica para enseñar un acto de habla


1. Objectives

1. To acquire consciousness about the need and importance of the pragmatic competence in language acquisition.

2. To overview the main pragmatic aspects that are related to language acquisition.

3. To analyze research methods to investigate pragmatic acquisition in L2.

4. To acquire tools to develop pragmatic competence in L2.

5. To be able to carry out a research project in pragmatic acquisition.

2. Course outline

1. Pragmatics

2. Speech Acts

3. Politeness

4. Culture and interculture

5. The teaching of pragmatics.

6. Some issues about pragmatic acquisition in L2.

3. Methodology

a) Lectures, where the teacher will explain the main contents.

b) Exercises and activities, where we will apply and put into practice the theoretical concepts.

c) Oral presentations about pragmatic topics to measure their understanding of pragmatic issues.

d) Student¿s individual assignment: elaboration of a research project.

4. Evaluation

1) Presentation about an author¿s pragmatic work. The teacher will evaluate the correct interpretation and critical value of the information, the relevance of the information, the analysis and synthesis capacity, the conceptual and expositive clearness, the ordered structure and the use of visual resources (40%).

2) A research design. The teacher will evaluate the research relevance, the correct approach, the rigour, the methodology followed and the assignment¿s structure (50%)

3) Class attendance, participation and interaction with the teacher and the group (10%)
