David de Cos Elices got his Physics (2000) and Electronic Engineering degrees (2001) at the UPV/EHU. Between 2002-2007 he got his PhD, with a dissertation entitled «High Frequency Magnetoimpedance in Planar Samples», winning the Extraordinary Doctorate Award and the Doctor Europaeus mention. His advisors were Alfredo García Arribas and José Manuel Barandiaran, from the Group of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials of the UPV/EHU. During his doctorate research he visited the Instituto de Magnetismo Aplicado (IMA), in Madrid; the University of Plymouth, in the United Kingdom; the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in the United States; and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), in Mexico DF.
In the 2007-2009 period he worked at the UPV/EHU General Research Services, as a Scientific Instrumentation technician.
In 2009 he joined the European Spallation Source consortium (ESS Bilbao), to design components for particle accelerators.
Since 2016 he's been a member of the UPV/EHU Physics Department, and teaches Physics at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
He's coauthored 28 scientific articles, 2 book chapters and more than 40 contributions to international conferences. His current main research lines are magnetoimpedance-based magnetic sensors, and their use in the detection of magnetotactic bacteria for biomedical applications.
