Our group researches the history of political cultures, and all aspects that fall under this category, including those of identities, in the modern Basque Country from a compared perspective. As well as Basque nationalism, the object of study that has received most of our attention in the past years, we now turn to other political cultures present in Basque territory from the 19th to the 21st centuries, fuerism, carlism, socialism, republicanism and monarchism in particular. Specific topics we are currently researching include sociability, political parties, symbols or sites of memory of those political cultures, etc. Special emphasis is made in an aspect often forgotten by recent Basque historiography, as is the presence of Spanish national identity in the Basque Country. Also, the group strives to give its research an open, and not isolated, bearing, comparing or combining the analysis of the Basque Country with other geographical areas such as Catalonia, Germany and the United States of America.
