GENERAL RADIOISOTOPE SERVICE

Facilities

Different scientific disciplines regularly develop a great variety of experiments with the absolute requirement of radioactive isotopes. Different departments at the Faculty of Science and Technology are currently using the Service within the following contexts:

  • Monitoring of metabolytes marked in the different metabolic routes of animals, plants and microorganisms.
  • Study into the cell cycle and behaviour of cyclines.
  • Studies into the regulation of syntheses and degradation of nucleic acids and the study of gene expression using PCR techniques (Polymerase Chain Reaction).
  • Regulation of cell activation by proto-oncogenes and cytokines.
  • Control of cell proliferation and death (apoptosis/necrosis).
  • Determination of intracellular second messengers and the study of the different routes of cellular signalling.
  • Study and characterization of membrane receptors with radioligands.
  • Detection and determination of biological molecules via commercial kits that contain radioactive isotopes.
  • Analysis of cyclic nucleotides by radioimmunotest (RIA).
  • Measurements of enzymatic activities.
